Dodgers jersey and more part of collaboration between Off-White, MLB and New Era

The Los Angeles Dodgers are one of six teams selected for a limited collection of merchandise by Off-White in conjunction with MLB and New Era.

The high-end fashion brand, founded by the late Virgil Abloh, has designed jerseys, hoodies, caps and t-shirts for the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Dodgers, Miami Marlins, Oakland Athletics and Toronto Blue Jays.

An Off-White Dodgers jersey costs $1,030, which is significantly higher than an authentic version found at MLB retailers. The look is also drastically different as the front features “Dodgers” in signature cursive script but in quotes, and with “YOUR NAME” on the back to accompany a #23.

Additionally, each MLB Off-White jersey incorporates the trademark “meteor” holes that Abloh first trademarked and introduced on a handbag in 2019. It later introduced Off-White “meteor” holes on clothes as part of a spring 2020 womenswear collection, and which fall for menswear.

The Off-White cap represents the lowest price of their MLB collection at $260. Next is the t-shirt ($355) and hoodie ($630).

Off-White was established in 2013, and five years later Abloh was hired by Louis Vuitton as artistic director of menswear. In July 2021, LVMH became a majority investor in Off-White and, together with Abloh, planned to jointly pursue new projects in the luxury categories.

Abloh died aged 41 last November.

Reaction to the Off-White MLB Collection

Although Abloh has established a strong – and revered – presence in the high-end fashion and sneaker industry through his work with Jordan Brand, Off-White’s partnership with MLB and New Era is apparently an attempt to reach a new customer.

The sweeping designs have drawn plenty of criticism and mockery on social media, although the sizes available on Off-White’s official website suggest sales are doing well.
