All MLB Teams Wearing Number 42 in Dodger Blue on Jackie Robinson Day

MLB has announced a slew of new and refreshed tributes to celebrate the 75th birthday of Brooklyn Dodgers legend Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier.

As tradition dictates, players, managers and coaches will once again wear Robinson’s iconic No. 42 number on April 15. However, for the first time in history, all teams will do so with Dodger Blue jersey numbers, regardless of their primary team colors. Additionally, 42 patches with team-specific uniform colors will appear on the sleeves of Nike uniforms and on New Era caps.

Also for the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson Day, MLB has produced a powerful video that reflects Robinson’s legacy as a Hall of Famer and trailblazing player, social justice advocate, civil rights icon and trailblazer in the business and broadcasting.

MLB also created a special logo for this diamond anniversary. Robinson’s digital signature sits at the top of the mark and is a link to the 50th anniversary patch. and all 30 club sites will have extensive editorial content and coverage highlighting each team’s special bond with Robinson.

“Seventy-five years ago, Jackie Robinson took to the field under incredibly difficult circumstances and unimaginable pressure. Yet through his courage, character, skill and values, he brought much-needed changes to our game and advanced the civil rights movement in our country,” MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement.

“During this special anniversary year, MLB’s top priority is to honor Jackie’s contributions and legacy, recognize the impact Rachel has had through the Jackie Robinson Foundation, and continue to bring the memory and values ​​of Jackie for the current generation of players and fans.”

ESPN is airing a special to honor Robinson and the 75th anniversary of his break from the color barrier and to highlight the continued work of his wife Rachel as she approaches her 100th birthday on July 19.
